Florez 'Pegleg' Chardonnay, Sonoma Mountain 2020 (750 ml)

Grape: 100% Chardonnay

Founded by Santa Cruz native James Jelks, a dry-farm, organic advocate. Florez Wines are delicious, super pure, and natural gems from California with a focus on thoughtful farming and winemaking. 

“Aromatics of lemon curd, nectarine, crème brûlée, and nuts define the nose. Akin to aged champagne and some Jura-type Chardonnays. A bright palate with minerality and texture. Dry, yet creamy with firm acidity,” says James.

The name Pegleg? Half of the fruit was foot tread and pressed the following day. The other half was direct pressed. One foot in one foot out, according to James.

Vineyard: Nelson, Sonoma Mountain. Steep south-facing hillside with well-drained metavolcanic soils. Farmed by James’s friend and peer David Rothschild, an upcoming figure within the natural California winemakers garde as a proud and skillful organic grower.

Making of: Half of the fruit was foot tread, and pressed the following day. The other half was direct pressed. Hence the name Pegleg, one foot in one foot out (also David, the grower, is half pirate). Both were barrel fermented in neutral French oak with native yeasts & bacteria. Topped, left undisturbed & sur lie for 10 months before a single racking, then bottled. No additives including no added sulfites.

By utilizing traditional, artisanal, and elemental practices we create one of a kind wines for those who take interest . Our production is small and our practices meticulous. We go out our way to do things exactly how we feel will best allow the wines to express distinct personality. The fruit is the most important part of the process and it is foundational that we work with good vineyards grown in harmony with their terroir.
