It has an intense straw yellow color with evident golden notes. On the nose, the scent is immediately impactful, with evident floral notes, white fruit, apple, pear, pineapple, tropical fruit and bitter almond. The taste is warm or quite warm, enriched by a soft and quite savory structure, it is fresh and balanced. In some cases, thanks to the acid structure, it manages to express its potential even after ten years. Ideal to accompany pasta based on white fish sauces, with clams, alla Catanese (with sardines and wild fennel), shrimp tempura, Mediterranean sashimi, Sicilian arancini with meat and spinach sauce, parmigiana, fried meatballs. Structure, fresh and balanced.

For centuries the manor has towered above the “Pianogrillo” hill. It is a true manor house amid cypresses and olive groves, overlooking a green plain known as “Piana dell’Acate”, within the ancient county of Modica and Chiaramonte (nowadays Province of Ragusa). Originally, during the Middle Ages, the building on the hill was a watchtower to lookout for and defend against the Saracens.

Pianogrillo Estate has belonged to my family, the Piccione di Pianogrillo barons, for centuries. Here at Pianogrillo, we produce High-quality extra virgin olive oils and, in recent years, wine, utilizing organic farming methods. The Vines and olive trees grow over a mix of sand, limestone and white marlstones at an elevation of 480 metres above sea level. There are rather dramatic differences in temperature between day and night, a real boon in this typically Mediterranean climate. We cultivate four indigenous grape varieties: Grillo, Grecanico, Nero d’ Avola and Frappato.
